What is a ‘Lifetime Supply of theCRICKETtoy’

Friday, April 17th, 2009

For certain occasions, I offer a ‘Lifetime Supply of theCRICKETtoy’ and I often get people asking how many that is. Here is the blog entry dedicated to “How Awkward are you?”

Lifetime Supply of Crickets (my sweet girls not included)

Lifetime Supply of Crickets (my sweet girls not included)

When the first sample sound chips came in, I wanted to know how long the batteries would last, so I did what any insane inventor would do, I sat and counted chirps until the battery died. I started in the house and drove my wife CRAZY! Then on a trip to see my folks in Pensacola (6 hour car ride), I sat and counted until the battery died.

I got to 2700 chirps before the battery starting giving out and it sounded like a slow-motion cricket. I actually went to 3200 just to see when it would completely give out (it didn’t by the way). I gave up. 2700 it is.

If you have 5 awkward moments/pauses (APs) a day, that’s 1825/year. If you lived to be 80 and you are 10, that would be 70 years X 1825 APs a year = 127,750 APs in your lifetime. Let that sink in by the way. OK…127,750 APs divided by 2700 chirps per cricket (CPCs) and you’ll get 48 crickets to handle your life of awkward.

Yes, I’m aware that you may have more than 5 awkward moments a day but a few things:

1. You’re not 10

2. If you’re that awkward, someone will end up shooting you before you turn 80

3. If you’re still chirping 10 years later, someone will end up shooting you.

So I’ve rounded up so 50 equals a ‘Lifetime Supply of theCRICKETtoy!’

Yes..yes..yes..I don’t apparently have a life and am taking this cricket thing way to seriously.

I made 15,000 of them (many sit behind me in my office). I’ve got to take it seriously.

Wow..you really read all of this?

Yikes!

Chirp. Chirp.

I’m a big LOST fan. I’m a big Alias fan. I’m a big fan of Star Trek. I’m a big fan of geekie/tech stuff.

I’m a HUGE fan of anyone who talks about theCRICKETtoy and helps me to sell the 15,000 I made; many of which sit behind me in my office right now.

Gordon, a writer for Geek Monthly, was at Toy Fair February in New York and stopped by our booth. We talked about the toy and I made the swap that I offered at the show. “I’ll give you theCRICKETtoy if you give me a business card.” I got an email after Toy Fair telling me he was writing an article about Top Toys of Toy Fair and was going to include theCRICKETtoy. Pretty  cool. Thanks Gordon. Great job!

Well the May issue is now out and, true to his word, we’re in this issue! J. J. Abrams is on the cover. He is talking about the New Star Trek Movie he made that’s coming out.

There are so many opportunities for J. J. to use theCRICKETtoy. Sitting with the writers of EVERY SHOW he works on when they pitch ideas that create those ‘awkward moments’. In the movie screening if he kills off Spock. At the movie premiere when William Shatner walks up and shakes hand and just stares at him. When he’s asked questions about Cloverfield.

and……….

when Hurley (Jorge Garcia) walks up to Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and says “How you doing?”
